The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program was established under Section 402 of the Clean Water Act, which prohibits the unauthorized discharge of pollutants from a point source (pipe, ditch, well, etc.) to U.S. waters, including municipal, commercial, and industrial wastewater discharges. The adoption of the Clean Water Act and the requirements it imposes upon developers and municipalities is still a source of considerable confusion and frustration.

Most municipalities now require a combination of structural and non-structural best management practices to eliminate or reduce pollutant runoff from their sites. Many companies have presented new products and promising solutions that prove to be either ineffective and overly expensive.

We at Precon Products have spent the last ten years evaluating a variety of promising solutions. We currently provide a variety of structural BMPs for varying conditions, requirements and budgets.  Our most efficient and cost effective product for sediment and trash removal is a “Continuous Deflective Separation” device commonly referred to as a CDS unit. It is an effective treatment technology utilizing a non-blocking, non-mechanical screening process to remove pollutants from storm-water flows. Precast CDS systems have the ability to treat a large range of flows (1 to 64 CFS). Cast in place CDS systems can treat flows as large as 300 cubic feet per second (CFS); Like other high flow units on the market the CDS unit incorporates a conventional oil baffle which effectively removes oil and grease from storm-water. With the addition of sorbents, permanent capture efficiency of up to 90% can be obtained. It is highly effective in capturing and retaining sediments/TSS. Unlike other systems on the market the CDS unit captures and retains 100% of floatables and other material greater than the screen aperture (4.7mm and 2.4mm screen apertures available). As a result of the unique design this material, once captured, cannot be washed or scoured out during peak flows.

In 2001 Precon became a distributor for Fossil Filter. We provide a full range of products consisting of a variety of catch-basin filters and erosion control devices.

Precon Products also provide custom designed coalescing plate separators using Facet International coalescing plates. The units can be designed for flow as little as 50 GPM to 5 CFS. The coalescing plates are extremely effective at removing oils and grease down to 10ppm or less. They are generally used in areas that have high exposure to oil and grease. In combination with other devices like CDS units or catch-basin inserts the coalescing plate provide a highly effective means of improving water quality.

In addition to our standard products, we provide precast components to a variety of other storm-water BMPs including proprietary designs such as Baysaver, Downstream Defender, Vortechnics, Stormceptor, and V2B1. We also produce conventional grease interceptors, oil water separators, sand traps and grit separators.
